Tips – Are you spending more time supporting fixes than future developments?

Are you spending more time supporting fixes than future developments? Maybe it’s time for an overhaul to ensure the system is easy to use, easy to maintain and easy to enhance.

This may seem daunting at first, but the rewards are far greater in the end.

At GHD, Anne-Marie Rodd reviewed the TM1 environment and found many quick fixes and work arounds had been implemented. All of this made the system difficult to scale, plus 90% of support’s time was used to fix issues.

    A rebuild was desperately needed.

Anne-Marie used this opportunity to rebuild GHD’s TM1 model from scratch and shares what she learnt through the process.

    Key takeaways:

    • The General Ledger model built in TM1 covers multiple currencies, pulled in data from 3 ERP systems for offices spanning 135 countries. This used to take 90 seconds to update, now it takes 2.5 seconds.
    • The rebuild now gives GHD a consolidated view of the company to do planning and reporting
    • Bedrock, Arc and Apliqode were adopted to ensure developer best-practices
    • Pulse was installed to assist with system documentation
    • It took 8 weeks to rebuild the model. The majority of the time was used for reconciling.
    • Future plans in TM1 is to build an automated cash flow forecast and statutory reporting
