To get Pulse up and running you need to follow the steps of the Setup Wizard. Before you start the Setup Wizard you should have the following information ready:
- The location of the 64 bit TM1 bin directory on the server.
- The SMTP server information for sending emails: server address and port number.
After you have gathered the information above you can now start the setup wizard:
Open the Pulse website, if you on the server you can use this address: http://localhost:8099, you can access the Pulse website from your desktop by replacing localhost with the server name.
NOTE: Pulse only supports Internet Explorer 9 or later
Step 1 - Start the Wizard
Click on the Setup Wizard button on the top left of the page
Step 2 - Log into Pulse
Login into Pulse using the default credentials displayed on the login page
Step 3 - Validate the License File
Check to see if you have a valid license file, by default you will have a 14 day trial. Click Next.
Step 4 - Change the Admin Password
Change the default Pulse admin user password, the password must be a strong password as shown in the message below. Click Save and Next.
Step 5 - Set the TM1 Bin directory
Pulse uses the TM1 API to communicate with the server and therefore needs the location of the 64bit bin directory. Pulse will attempt to find this path using the common paths used by the TM1 installer, if you have installed TM1 in a different location you will need to enter the path manually. Determine the correct path where TM1 is installed, you can find this information by opening Windows Task Manager and viewing the properties of the tm1sd.exe process. Enter the path and click Test.
If the bin directory path is valid you will be able to progress to the next step. Click Next.
Step 6 - Check the TM1 Instances
Pulse will display the TM1 instances (Windows Services) that have been found on the server. By default Pulse will display all Windows Services that have tm1sd as part of start up path for the service. You can display only Services that have been configured to Automatic by toggling the Auto Start Services Only option to Yes. Click Next.
Step 7 - Set TM1 Credentials
Pulse requires TM1 credentials so it can log into each TM1 instance to extract information. On this screen you should provide the details for each TM1 instance, Pulse can only check the credentials if the TM1 instance is up and running. Enter the following details:
- CAM Namespace: This is only required when running IntegratedSecurityMode 4 or 5 (check the tm1s.cfg file) and is the Namespace ID (see image below) in Cognos Configuration. Leave blank for other security modes.
- User Name: The user name to login into TM1.
- Password: The password to login into TM1.
NOTE: The user needs to be part of the TM1 Admin group and if you are using an Active Directory account you should use a service account without an expiring password.
Once you have entered the details click Test.
If the credentials are correct you will be presented with a green box. Click Next.
Step 8 - SMTP Settings
Pulse requires access to your corporate SMTP server to send email alerts. On most corporate networks you only need to provide the SMTP server (or IP address) and a Email From address. The Email From address doesn't have to be a valid email address on most systems and can just be:email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org
Depending on how your SMTP server is configured you may need to allow "SMTP relay" from your TM1 server, change or turn of security software or provide authentication, speak to your System Administrator.
Test the SMTP settings by adding your email address to the Sent Test To box at the bottom and clickingTest. If the SMTP settings are correct the test will return Sent. Click Next.
Step 9 - Notification Groups
Pulse can have one or more Notification Groups, these are assigned to Alerts and allow you to send emails to a group of people. Before finishing the wizard you need to add have at least one notification group. Multiple email addresses should be separated by a comma.
Step 10 - Finish
Click Save. Congratulations Pulse is now up and running. Refreshing the page (F5) will remove Setup Wizard button from the menu.
Step 11 - Restart TM1 Services
Before Pulse can start documenting your system you need to restart each instance of TM1. You can do this by restarting the server or you can restart each TM1 Windows service through the Services Control Panel:
